Saffron flowers sit inside a charcoal lattice on an ivory ground. What makes this floral ikat pillow cover unusual is the restraint: most ikat florals fill the cloth edge to edge, and this one gives each bloom its own frame and lets the ivory breathe around it.

The ogee frame

The pointed oval holding each flower is an ogee — a shape that runs from Ottoman tilework through Central Asian weaving, used because it tiles infinitely without ever closing. Resist-dyeing it takes two separate bindings, one for the frame and one for the bloom inside it.

Styling it
