Pale lilac pomegranates trail across a warm rust ground, each one worked by hand in satin stitch. The pomegranate is the oldest and most loved motif in suzani embroidery, and this is the collection’s clearest example of it.

Why pomegranates

In Central Asian and Anatolian needlework the pomegranate stands for abundance and fertility — traditionally embroidered for a dowry. The split fruit heavy with seeds is the whole idea in one shape, and here it is drawn large so the symbolism reads across the room.

Styling it

Rust is a warm neutral once it is on the sofa. It sits naturally against leather, walnut and cream, and the lilac keeps it from going heavy. A quiet, grown-up colourway rather than a bright one.
