The Anatolian drop: a curve with a long history

The rounded, pointed shape repeated across this bag is our Drop pattern, the same motif you'll find on our Drop silk velvet pillow covers. Textile historians call it the ogee, and it is one of the most enduring patterns in Anatolian weaving. Ottoman weavers used it for centuries in their finest silks and velvets, letting one curve flow into the next so the pattern never really stops. On a tote, that same rhythm wraps from the front panel around the sides and up into the handles.

A woven pattern, a handmade bag

The pattern is woven into the silk velvet on the loom, not printed on top, which is where the softly feathered edges of each drop come from. The pile catches the light differently as you move. From there, the work is done by hand: each bag is made to order by artisans in Türkiye, cut, lined and stitched one at a time. Because every bag is cut from a different part of the fabric, the drops fall a little differently on each one.
