The teardrop motif

Teardrop and paisley-adjacent forms travelled the length of the Silk Road, and the shape survives in weaving traditions from Uzbekistan to Anatolia. Here it is drawn loosely rather than precisely, which suits ikat — a form with soft edges reads as intentional when the technique blurs everything anyway.

Styling it

Amber is a warm neutral once it is on the sofa. The slate blue keeps it from going orange in the afternoon light, which is the usual problem with amber textiles in a west-facing room. Sits well against navy, denim and unbleached linen.
