Su yolu: the waterway motif

The wave belongs to a family of Anatolian motifs called su yolu, literally the waterway. Weavers used it to speak about what water means in a dry country: rebirth, renewal of both body and spirit, and the continuity of life itself. In a nomadic culture that followed the water, this was not a metaphor. It was the whole calendar.

Handwoven, never printed

The soft edges of the wave come from ikat dyeing, where the yarn is bound and dyed before it ever reaches the loom. The slight blur is the signature of the technique, not a flaw. Every bag is cut from a different length of cloth, so your wave breaks in its own place.
