Bold red tulips with gold leaves, hand-embroidered along a pale blue-gray ground in a 16" × 24" lumbar. The most emphatic of the three tulip covers — larger flowers, stronger red.

The tulip at scale

Drawing the tulip large exposes the hand more than a small repeat does: you can read each satin-stitched petal and the direction of the thread. That legibility is the difference between hand embroidery and a printed copy.

Styling it

Red and pale blue is a crisp, slightly traditional pairing. This lumbar earns its place at the front of a bed or across a bench, where its length can be seen in full against white or natural bedding.
