Evil Eye Coffee Cups: Handmade Turkish Ceramic Cups
A cup you reach for every morning is worth choosing well. Our evil eye coffee cups are handmade ceramic, shaped and painted by hand in Türkiye, each one carrying the nazar — the eye that, in Turkish tradition, watches over you and turns away an envious glance. It is a small, quiet way to bring a centuries-old symbol of protection into an everyday ritual.
An Everyday Amulet
Most nazar objects are made to be hung by a door or worn. A cup is different — it lives in your hands, part of the first slow minutes of the day. If you want the story behind the symbol, we wrote a full guide to what the evil eye (nazar) means and its place in Turkish culture. In short: the eye design "catches" a jealous or overly admiring gaze and turns it back, so the good in your life stays protected.
Made by Hand, by Women Artisans in Türkiye
These cups are not mass-produced. Each one is made and hand-painted by a local woman ceramic artist on Türkiye's Aegean coast, part of the small group of women artists whose work we curate. Because every cup is finished by hand, no two are exactly alike — the eye sits a little differently, the color varies from piece to piece. That is the signature of real handwork, not a flaw.
Size, Colors, and Everyday Use
Each cup holds about 6.76 oz (200 ml) — a generous small cup, right for a morning coffee, an espresso lungo, or an afternoon tea. Online we carry them in three finishes:
- The classic evil eye coffee cup, in the traditional cobalt and white
- The snow evil eye coffee cup, on a soft white ground
- The black evil eye coffee cup, for a bolder, modern look
How to Care for a Handmade Ceramic Cup
As with most handmade, hand-painted ceramics, a little care keeps them looking their best:
- Hand washing is safest to protect the hand-painted design over time.
- Skip abrasive cleaners — a mild soap and a soft sponge are all it takes.
A Small, Meaningful Gift
An evil eye cup is one of those rare gifts that is useful, beautiful, and full of meaning at once — ideal for a coffee lover, a housewarming, or anyone starting a new chapter. Pair it with one of our ceramic evil eye wall pieces for a complete, protective gift set.
