The lattice motif

Interlocking geometry like this filled Ottoman tilework and manuscript borders for four centuries. A lattice has no beginning and no end, which is precisely why it was used — read as a figure for infinity, and a safe one to place anywhere, since it depicts nothing living.

Made by hand in Turkey

The silhouette is drawn from the ceremonial caftans worn at the Ottoman court in the 17th and 18th centuries. Colour goes on beneath the glaze, gold gilding over it, so the surface stays glossy and the line stays sharp. No two pieces come out the same.
