A desert evil eye, crocheted by hand

A single nazar worked in soft camel, ringed in white around a pale blue iris, on a deeper taupe linen ground — tone on tone rather than contrast. Cream tassels at either side. The motif is crocheted separately and stitched down by hand.

Older than the glass bead

The blue glass bead is the form most people picture, but it is a comparatively recent carrier for a much older idea. Belief in the harm of an envious look runs across the Mediterranean and the Near East, and long before glassmaking it was carried in the things people already had — thread, weaving, stitch. A crocheted eye is the older tradition, not a modern take on it.

Styling it

The only colourway where the eye and the ground come from the same family, which makes it the softest of the five. Choose it for a bedroom, or anywhere the pale blue iris should be the only cool note in the room. It layers well with the charcoal evil eye cover, and with the saffron if the room needs lifting.
