A single nazar worked in golden saffron, ringed in white around a pale blue iris, on a natural linen ground, with knotted tassels at either side. The motif is crocheted separately and stitched down by hand.

Where you meet the eye in Türkiye

It is not a decorative flourish there, it is everywhere and largely unremarked: above a shop door, on a rear-view mirror, pinned inside a newborn’s blanket, set into the wall of a new house before the plaster dries. Most people who hang one would not describe themselves as superstitious. It is simply what you do.

Styling it

Saffron is the warmest of the five and the easiest to live with in a room that is already neutral. It picks up brass, oak and unbleached linen without competing with them.
