Fuchsia and green silk velvet, stepped into a labyrinth that folds back on itself. The boldest colourway we have woven this year.

The meander: a line with no end

The stepped labyrinth is one of the oldest borders in Anatolian weaving, and it shares its logic with the su yolu, the waterway motif. Both describe something that keeps moving and never arrives: water finding its course, a life continuing. Because the line has no beginning and no end, it became a natural fit for Islamic ornament, where infinite pattern replaced figurative image.

Handwoven, never printed

The maze is built into the pile of the velvet, so the fuchsia flares where the light hits and darkens where it does not. Each bag is cut from a different length of cloth, so the labyrinth turns in its own way on your piece.
