A purple ikat pillow cover with saffron and sky blue medallions

Ivory-rimmed medallions float across a deep purple ground, some filled with saffron, some with sky blue, some left open to the purple beneath. This purple ikat pillow cover was resist-dyed at the yarn stage and handwoven in Türkiye, so every rim and every fill feathers at its edge instead of stopping short.

The medallion and the sprout

Inside each medallion sits a small forked sprout, and the same shape repeats in ivory between them, scattered among short dashes. A framed motif like this needs one binding for the ivory rim and another for the colour inside it, and three different fills mean three separate rounds of binding and dyeing before the yarn reached the loom.

Styling it

Purple is the jewel tone of this collection. It sits well against charcoal, deep green and mustard upholstery, and the saffron picks up brass and warm wood. On a pale sofa it becomes the focal point, so give it one quieter neighbour: Saffron Grid shares its yellow, Navy Leaf shares its depth.
