Why ikat edges are never sharp

In ikat, the yarn is bound and dyed before weaving, so the dye has to be lined up thread by thread on the loom. Perfect alignment is impossible, and the slight feathering that results is how you tell hand ikat from a machine print. Weavers across Anatolia and Central Asia have accepted that blur for centuries. It is the fingerprint of the method.

The diamond, or baklava

The diamond lattice is one of the oldest structural forms in Turkish weaving, used to organise a field of cloth into something the eye can rest on. It carries associations of abundance and protection across different regional traditions.
