Carry the pattern Ottoman sultans wore into battle
Burnt orange silk velvet, scattered with pink and navy leopard markings. It reads as a modern animal print. It is actually one of the oldest power symbols in Turkish art.
Çintemani: three dots, borrowed from the leopard
The çintemani motif grew out of leopard markings, abstracted into three dots. In Anatolian tradition it stands for strength, might and authority, and it was believed to protect whoever wore it. Ottoman sultans had it embroidered onto their kaftans and ceremonial robes. Its roots reach back to the Far East, travelling west along the same routes as the silk itself.
Handwoven, never printed
The pattern is woven into the silk velvet, not stamped onto it. That is why the colour sits deep in the pile and shifts as the light moves. It also means every bag is cut from a different section of cloth, so no two pieces carry the motif in the same place.

In the same family: Teal Leopard and Steel Leopard carry the same çintemani motif in cooler tones.
