Çintemani: three dots, borrowed from the leopard

The çintemani motif is an abstraction of leopard markings into three dots. In Anatolian tradition it signifies strength, might and authority, and it was believed to shield the wearer from harm. It appears again and again on the kaftans of Ottoman sultans. The motif reached Anatolia from the Far East, carried along the silk routes.

Handwoven, never printed

Woven into the velvet rather than printed on top, so the teal holds its depth and catches light along the pile. Each bag is cut from a different part of the bolt, which means the motif falls differently on every single piece.
